We get it, tires are expensive. Having to replace all four tires on your car can feel financially devastating. However, you can make the most of the tires you already have by doing a monthly P.A.R.T. check. The first day of each month is a good time to take five minutes and check your tire pressure, alignment, rotation, and tread depth. Pressure: Inside the driver side door is a sticker that indicates the PSI for each tire. Ensure that your tire pressure matches the manufacturer’s recommendation as over-inflation or under-inflation can cause the tires to wear unevenly. Alignment: While not an easy aspect to observe, your car’s alignment is crucial to keeping the tires in top shape. If you’ve recently felt the vehicle pulling to one way or the other, it may be time to bring your vehicle in for an alignment check. Also, if you recently had a collision or hit a pothole, then call us to inspect the alignment.&nbs ... read more

Perhaps the most satisfying part of our job at Admiral Tire and Auto is ensuring that customers are driving safe vehicles as they commute to work and transport their families to school, rehearsals, or vacation. One of the best ways for everyone to keep their vehicle safe is to have tires with an optimal tread depth. Tires with a depth between 9/32” and 12/32” are considered in the optimal range. At 4/32” of tread depth, a tire’s ability to evacuate rain and snow is greatly diminished. Any tire with a tread depth below 2/32” is unsafe and should be replaced immediately. While those measurements may seem intimidating, there are some simple methods to checking your tires’ depth. All tires come with tread wear indicators which are tiny bars spaced out between the grooves in the tire. When those bars become even with the tread, it is time to repla ... read more

A customer recently asked, “Why do I need an alignment? Didn’t you guys balance the tires?” Both balancing tires and correcting an alignment are essential to car maintenance and a smooth ride. A wheel balance corrects uneven distribution of weight which can lead to vibration, excessive tire wear, damage to the suspension, and other problems. Tires may be out of balance due to lack of use or from striking curbs, potholes, or debris. If you notice vibrations while driving or that your tires are wearing unevenly, then you may need one or more wheels balanced. To correct this problem, one of our technicians will use a machine which indicates precisely where they should apply additional weights to balance the wheel assembly. Tires should be balanced as part of a tire rotation, after a flat tire repair, or as part of routine maintenance. While wheel balancing is about weight, an alignment is all about angles.
